Jess Engle is a contemporary artist based in Austin, Texas. Her work is fresh and bold with a modernist sensibility and can be found in homes, businesses and retailers across the U.S. and internationally.

She spent her formative years living in Ethiopia, Southern Africa and the Mediterranean, immersed in the genius loci - the essence - of each place.

This question of what is essential deeply influences her body of work and philosophy of life. Jess is a practitioner of Sōtō Zen Buddhism and her art is imbued with a sense of interconnection and reverence for the true nature of things.

Natural elements, cosmic shapes, mass, space, and time are recurring themes in her work. Each piece is meant to create its own essential force - that is dynamic and porous in relation to the observer.
